Sarah Todd (2016)
Keyboard, Accompanist
What are your most important educational and musical moments?
I am always thrilled when a student goes from not understanding or able to do something to making something beautiful…when it “clicks!” I love the wonderful sublime moments when I am able to soak in music personally…not only making music but being moved by music.
Why did you choose music?
Music always filled our home for as long as I can remember, and I had lots of early experiences with it. My first love of choir blossomed at age eight when I started singing in a children’s choir. I guess that’s why I love accompanying choirs.
Why did you choose your instrument?
My mother was a musician and taught piano. She encouraged me to play, and by the time I was in junior high I was pretty good. I just kept going!
What are you currently doing?
With a piano pedagogy degree and Kodaly certification, I have been teaching music since 2003. I teach general music to students in pre-K through 8th grade at a private school in Oak Park, IL and give private lessons on the piano. I also love teaching at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Muskegon.
Tell us about your family.
I have a small family including my sweet parents and my sister, brother-in-law, and three -year-old niece. We are all musical and enjoy sharing our love of music together.
Any non-musical interests or hobbies?
I love being outside walking and hiking, and I also enjoy reading. I get a kick out of cooking things without recipes and often challenge myself to figure out ways to use whatever food is in the house.
